About Empower
Embodying culture, family & success.
We are a movement dedicated to making the future of the North End as vibrant as its past.

Deeply rooted in the culture, heritage, and history of Wichita’s North End, a self-made spirit in generations past built historic buildings, a strong community, and a foundation that still stands today.
Thousands of Latino immigrants who made the area their home formed its iconic structures and vibrant community.
Despite the physical and economic challenges the Nomar District has faced over the years, its residents have always been dreamers. Where others might see only obstacles, the people of Nomar see a foundation built on hard work, grit, and an enduring legacy.
They remember the strong will of those who paved the way. They recall their steadfast courage and seek to revive their ambitious spirit.
We exist to support and strengthen these efforts.
Every small business that opens its doors, every community event that draws neighbors together, and every investment in local growth signals a commitment to the district’s revitalization. It’s this collective ambition—both a homage to the past and a bold vision for the future—that continually breathes life and hope into the North End.
We picture the horizon teeming with growing first-generation businesses. We see people living better lives. We strive to help the entire community prosper.
Echoing proof of the resilient dreams of those who came before.
That is what we do.
We remember. We proclaim. We Empower.

FAQs
Wichita’s North End
Where is the North End?
The North End is Wichita’s predominantly Hispanic community located north of Downtown. The North End encompasses parts of the El Pueblo, Midtown, and Benjamin Hills neighborhoods.
What does Nomar mean?
The name Nomar comes from the original name of the Nomar Theatre, located just around the corner from the Nomar Center on 21st and Market Streets.
“Nomar” is short for North Market, the iconic street that has long served as a central hub for the community. The name reflects the area’s rich history and cultural significance, which has been a gathering place for businesses, families, and events for generations.
The Nomar District, including the Nomar International Plaza (opened at 21st and Broadway in 2011), plays a key role in the North End’s continuing development and identity.
